Casablanca recording artist Brie Larson celebrates the recent release of her DVD single, Finally Out Of PE, featuring live performances from Sessions@AOL, her "She Said" video and behind-the-scenes footage. Look for her debut CD of the same name coming soon!
Brie recently wrapped her tour with Jesse McCartney and is can be seen on the Teen People Rock & Shop tour. She recently sat down with Kiwibox.com with her tips for fast, fun fashion and beauty on-the-go...check it out now.
Kiwibox: How long does it take you to do your makeup and hair before a show?
Brie Larson: I kind of get ready in two parts. Before my sound check I flat iron my hair and apply a light base, that takes me about 45 minutes. Right before the show, I have a friend who is a professional make up artist and she does my stage make up for me, including some awesome glitter fake lashes. I usually run the flat iron through my hair again and so I spend about another 30 minutes getting ready.
Kiwibox: How would you describe your style while traveling on the road?
Brie: While traveling on the tour bus I learned to be more low maintenance. There isn't a shower or a place to run a blow dryer so the ponytail is my best friend. I also live in my Juicy Couture sweats and either my Spiderman or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pajamas!...I'm such a diva!
Kiwibox: What is the difference between your style on the road and off the road?
Brie: Off the road I'm definitely more put together. My hair is done and my make up is fresh where as when I'm on the bus the only make up I have on it what's left over from last nights show.
Kiwibox: Any tips you have for girls accessorizing/mixing and matching outfits while traveling, when you can't really lug around a lot of stuff?
Brie: I like layers so I always pack some solid colored stuff that I can wear under or over my printed separates. I also pack a cosmetic bag with a bunch of jewelry that can be mixed and matched. Then I'll throw in some belts, a couple cardigans, sneakers and a pair of heels. I can pretty much go anywhere with that combination.
Kiwibox: Being a young artist how much control do you have over your styling for your shows?
Brie: I have been given 100% control over my styling for my shows. I like things that have a lot of color and are comfortable. I jump around a lot so I need something not too warm and no high heels....that's how I ended up with what Jesse McCartney's band as called my look as "the Breeze"--it's shorts with cowboy boots!
Kiwibox: Have you had to modify any of your routines to fit into your schedule of life on the road?
Brie: Not too much. I graduated high school before the touring started so that was really helpful. I've also learned how to be a "napper" because after a late show or an early radio interview you have to catch up on your sleep to keep up with it all.
Kiwibox: What are your favorite products that cater to you being on the road?
Brie: My Sidekick for sure! I can keep in touch with all my family and friends so easily with instant messaging or email. I also can't live without my ipod.... I have to listen to music while I'm on the plane or trying to fall asleep.
Kiwibox: What are your best tips for beauty routines on the road?
Brie: Wash your face! Believe me, on those nights that I'm too lazy to wash my face before I go to sleep I pay for the next day...I have sensitive skin so I have to always wash my face. I also bring Airborne and Emergent-C (I think that's how you spell it!) from Trader Joe's with me as a prevention from getting sick.
Kiwibox: Are there any makeup tricks you have learned that you can share with us?
Brie: I like to use a palate and brush for my foundation. You can buy them at any beauty supply store and I think your base goes on smoother. You also can clean your brushes with rubbing alcohol to keep bacteria from growing in your brushes. When you use sponges it's easy for bacteria to grow and cause breakouts. I also recommend using a highlighter under your eyes. I have always bought a more expensive brand and I just recently bought one at the drug store by Maybeline and it works just as good.
Kiwibox: Do you get inspired by any one person's style? If so, who?
Brie: Gwen Stefani of course! I like her "girly" style that still has a rock edge to it...I find that I am attracted to that mix as well and so I think we have that in common...of course, what teenage girl wouldn't want to come up with something that they find in common with Gwen!
Kiwibox: Do you express yourself through fashion similarly as to music?
Brie: Absolutely. I have a definite sense of style that is an expression of me. I think anyone who loves fashion is really expressing themselves, like art in some ways. I'm constantly expanding my ideas about fashion and hope to have some impact on the industry some day.
Kiwibox: What advice can you give to young ladies regarding Beauty and Fashion?
Brie: I think you just have to be true to yourself. If you have a pair of pants that make you feel great, who cares what anyone else thinks. Your sense of style and beauty should be really about the things you love....If you flip through a magazine and see something that rocks your socks then try to find it in a store or make it out of something you already own....You will be truly representing who you are and I think everyone likes someone who has a clear sense of who they are.
Thanks for asking me all these cool questions, it was fun and I hope to do it again!
